What we did with Pods
We used Pods across several layers of the Ignition site's interface. On the backend, Pods allowed us to give the client the ability to manage Team Member bios and attach client logos to WordPress Taxonomy items. PodsUI allowed us to implement a really nice UI to manage this custom content.
The front-end is a client-side application powered by Sammy.js, and we wrote several Pods pages to expose the CMS's content as JSON resources for it to consume. Specifically, Pods' pre-code fields let us change the Content-Type headers and inject code into the CMS before it renders HTML. Without Pods, we would have had to write a custom WordPress plugin to get this level of customization.
Finally, the site has zillions of different image sizes, and we wouldn't have been able to accomodate them all without Pods helpers.
Phase 2 of this project is forthcoming. Along with many front-end optimizations, we plan to build a Campaign Monitor-integrated email marketing system with Pods UI so the client can use case study content in their HTML email campaigns.
About this Site / Project:
Ignition Experiential Marketing had a design that needed a solid implementation. They asked us (Fifth Room Creative) to build them a WordPress site with an ambitious front-end and an easy to use backend interface. This is what we came up with.
The front-end is powered by Sammy.js (via jQuery), and the grid layout is managed by the jQuery Masonry plugin. We also wrote a pretty big helper plugin to tie everything together. Style is managed by Compass and the Blueprint CSS framework.
The backend is all WordPress and Pods (see Pods description for implementation info). All custom functionality is built using Pods and PodsUI.
